Last day in Japan You have already bought lots No more shopping, k?
Hahaha kapabashi street.
When I was in Kyoto in 2019, there was a Ramen shop that had these amazing spice grinders that were the thickness of my thumb and about 6 inches long and I have been looking for them ever since because they were made really nicely and just felt great to use … I finally found them today. Asahisunred
Fuckit, off to Akihibara to buy that iPad I’ve been eyeing off. Tax free is handy and it’s a good price for a neat little unit. Train train zoom zoom can I have the purple one please? Ok and a case.
Now back to Ueno to grab my bags, and then…. Haneda airport via the Monorail. What a lovely airport precinct, with the connected shopping and event space, I wish I had time to take advantage of the spa and or hotel, the onsen sounds like a great pre flight option :)
Instead we had to satisfy ourselves with some amazing sushi and other options, and then check in and retire to the JAL first class lounge. A shower and then far too much delightful sushi, curry, saké and happiness.
Then on to the plane… and as I handed over my boarding pass for scanning, there was a moment and… I GOT MY BUSINESS CLASS UPGRADE! Wooooooo! I’d applied, and been told it was a full plane as we checked in, but we had this bottle of champagne we couldn’t drink and… it went to the gate staff. I’m sure it had nothing to do with it, because they’re terribly professional… but hey. You put good out there, you get some back, right?
Happy.
Japanese Bento box, woo. Sake for the people. Woo.
Total weight of bags me and everything coming off the plane (according to my home scales) is 157kg. Without anything but my watch, 112.3.
