on the train

First email: “We will pick you up from your hotel in Darwin”
The email five days before the trip: “We will pick you up from select hotels in Darwin city”
… turns out, the list was basically “The Hiltons and some other random one I can’t remember”
So to make our 0715 “departure time, be there half an hour early” from the hotel we woke up at stupid o’clock, walked a few blocks to the Hilton, sat around for ages while the very nice man started a conversation with every boomer in the line, then finally got a slip of paper telling us our cabin number at 0725.
Then we did a tour of a few other hotels, then returned to the first one to pick up some randoms before heading off to the train.
Oh, the train!

We’re leaving from Darwin and heading to Adelaide with stops in Katherine, Alice Springs and Manguri Siding (to visit Coober Pedy).

Carriage C, our home away from home
