The Journey Home

fairly uneventful trip home

had breakfast, finished packing and grabbed a cab to the airport - berlin tegel (TXL)

airport is shitty - line up to check in, line up to get to the gate, then you’re stuck in a little cage between two gates with access to the world’s shittiest duty free shopping and a pretzel cart.

flight to london was OK

hanging around in LHR was meh. had to wait two hours to be able to drop off our bags because the QANTAS desk wasn’t open, then hung out in the QANTAS lounge thanks to RMB’s QANTAS club membership. the food was nice and the internet plentiful, the staff were lovely. I wish I’d thought about it, else I’d have had a shower just for the sake of it.

flight to Singapore was long. thankfully we got the middle section of the plane - four seats wide - a navy guy and his buddy were supposed to be in the other two seats, but buddy didn’t turn up and guy seems to have fucked off somewhere else for the whole flight.

didn’t sleep at all, grabbed a few minutes of lying down in between RMB napping.

watched mars attacks, I’d never gotten to see it before. schlocky fun.

ant man and the wasp. yeah, it was fun and their romance was a nice side bit. fishburne’s great.

got to singapore, didn’t have to deal with bags so we headed to QANTAS club again. grabbed some snacks, put ourselves in the queue for the shower - thankfully they didn’t get too prudish about us sharing the facilities. - saved a bit of extra time waiting for a stall to be available.

showered, same skanky two week old clothes, but cool a/c breeze on wet skin and freshly brushed teeth is a nice feeling.

through security and waiting in the pen, I was a bit dry so grabbed a bottle of water. best $3.60 I spent all trip I think - it was ice cold, and so unimaginably refreshing. onto the plane, two seats side-by-side for the flight to brisbane. typically it’s a ~9 hour flight - this time, the captain’s all “oh, it’ll be seven hours, we’ll be home early” - we cheered quietly and a few others did too.

watched farenheit 451 - not a great film - a much better telling of the same moral is Equilibrium in my opinion. The direction was terrible and the actors didn’t do anything with it. such a great concept but just … executed poorly.

I must have slept a bit - somehow folded myself onto RMB’s lap on a 2x1 seat arrangement. I can’t sleep sitting up - my head either rolls backwards folding my neck horribly or forwards, stretching it badly and just aching within minutes. Blerch.

Got into BNE without any major fuss before 0600, went through customs and so forth quickly.

home and unpacked, so many puppy cuddles! :D

sitting around at 1130 and trying not to nap. today’s going to be a long day.
