Antalya

Starting in Kas, we headed to Antalya today.

Antalya Archaeological museum.

So many amazing crumblies and so many other artifices to check out.

Another day with a load of photos.

Lunch at Falez Manzare Cafe & Bistro with an incredible view and delicious food. Different to most places along this adventure, the menu was in Turkish alone. I’ve learnt enough by now to be able to read it myself… or enough that only a little use of Google Translate’s camera feature was required. Efes in a mug and Eggplant Köfte was dutifully shoved in my face. :)

The triple arch of Hadrian’s gate, built in 138AD was quite the spectacle. The lion-headed drains were cool.

We wandered around the city and enjoyed the view. At the top of the wall above the old city, we checked out the Attatürk monument, a curiously modern version of the one that’s in every city.

To get from there to the old city again, we piled into an elevator to take a quick trip down. Everyone going our way fit in the one ride, but it seems the return trip was popular tonight, as at the bottom was a line about fifty people deep!

  • Pirate boats were cool in the marina
  • dinner at Hasanga, renowned for its food and its ability to attract Turkish and international cultural icons (not celebrities, but real creatives!).

The place was stuffed with locals and the meze were laid out in a massive buffet, 25TL for a plateful, which I saw as a challenge. There was such an incredible array of food, I couldn’t help myself! Dinner was the Ottoman plate, with some delicious xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Some local folk musicians were on that night and they played an array of songs I couldn’t identify but was told they were doing traditional songs first in a lounge-music style to warm everyone up, then they worked up to much more lively styles later in the meal. Throughout they were accepting requests, being brought forth by the waiters and laid on the musician’s knee.
